Match the lunch box to your meal, not your aspirations.

The right lunch box is the one that fits the meal you actually eat, so measure your appetite in cups, not by the size of the cheapest box on the shelf.

Most normal adult lunches are between 1.5 and 3 cups of food. A one-liter box holds about 4 cups, so it’s bigger than most people need. Start with a 750ml box if you’re average. If you’re a light eater, a 500ml box covers a sandwich or decent salad fine. If you’re a serious eater, 1L gives you room without turning into a bucket.

The trick is to think about what you pack, not the box. Fill your regular plate at home, scoop it into a measuring cup, and buy for that number. Salad and soup behave differently, so don’t overthink exact volume.

Also, resist going too big. Oversized boxes pull you toward overpacking and make you feel like you have to fill them to justify the purchase. If you’re still hungry later, add a piece of fruit or a yogurt on the side. That’s cheaper than lugging an empty industrial container around.

Your appetite is the boss; the box just carries it.
