Measure the backpack, not the lunch box.
You need to measure the inside of the backpack, not just guess from product photos. Grab a tape measure and check three things: depth, width, and height.
Open the main compartment all the way and measure the actual space. Then check the opening itself — a lunch box can be smaller than the bag but still not fit if the zipper opening is narrower. This is the most common mistake.
Also think about shape. A tall skinny bottle fits differently than a wide hard cooler. If you want flexibility, a soft-sided lunch bag with a little give is much easier to work with than a rigid box. Measure the compartment, subtract a little breathing room, and look for something in that range.
A quick tip: measure the bottom of the backpack too. Many bags taper, so even if the top looks huge, the base might be too narrow for a boxy cooler.
Future You deserves a lunch that isn’t squished into a ball.
