Mesh beach totes are the only option.
Yes. Anything woven or fabric-based will hold sand forever. You need something that lets sand fall through or rinse out instantly.
Canvas bags look nice but trap sand in the fibers. You’ll still be finding grains weeks later. Same for those heavy-duty cotton totes. Even the “sand-resistant” ones are just marketing — they slow it down, they don’t solve it.
Mesh totes (the ones that look like giant laundry bags) or plastic/rubber buckets with holes let sand drain right out. Give it a shake or a quick rinse, and you’re done. They also dry fast, so they don’t mildew in your trunk.
Bonus: they’re cheap. A mesh tote costs maybe $15. The fancy “sand-free” designer ones cost ten times that and still trap sand in the seams.
