Micro-textured mousepads will eat your glide dots faster.

Yes, they will. Rough surfaces are abrasive by nature – that’s how they provide extra control. The micro-texture acts like fine sandpaper on the PTFE (or whatever plastic) feet of your mouse. Smooth cloth pads are much gentler.

How much faster? Depends on the pad and the mouse. Some hard pads with aggressive texture can wear down stock feet in weeks instead of months. Soft cloth pads with a subtle weave are usually fine for years. But anything that feels “rough” to the touch is accelerating wear.

That said, if you prefer the feel (more control, less slip), it’s a trade-off you can manage. Replacement glide dots are cheap, and some mice even come with spares. Just know you’re trading long-term foot life for short-term grip.

Don’t let it stop you from getting the pad you like – just keep a pack of replacement feet in your drawer.
