Micro-textured pads are louder than smooth hard pads
Yes — and it’s not subtle.
The Razer Strider uses a hybrid surface that’s technically a hard pad but with a fine fabric-like texture. That texture grabs mouse feet more aggressively than a truly smooth hard pad like a Glorious Element or Skypad. When you do fast flicks, the increased friction and surface roughness create a distinct “shhhhhh” or scratching sound. Smooth hard pads are near silent in comparison—just a faint glide.
Some people actually like the audible feedback; it feels tactile even through the sound. Others find it distracting or annoying if you’re gaming in a quiet room or recording. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it’s noticeable enough that you should know what you’re getting into.
If you hate scratchy noises, stick with a smooth surface.
