Mineral sunscreen is better for sensitive skin.
Yes, if your skin is easily irritated, stick with mineral (also called physical) sunscreen. The chemical stuff works fine for most people, but it’s more likely to cause stinging, redness, or breakouts on reactive skin.
The difference is how they protect you. Chemical sunscreens (avobenzone, oxybenzone, etc.) absorb UV rays and turn them into heat, which can trigger irritation. Mineral sunscreens (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide) sit on top of your skin and physically reflect the sun. They’re inert, so they rarely cause problems.
That said, not all mineral sunscreens are created equal. Some have added fragrances or essential oils that defeat the purpose. Look for one that says “fragrance-free” and has zinc oxide as the main ingredient. The whitish cast is annoying, but tinted versions exist if that bothers you.
Sensitive skin is about avoiding triggers, and mineral sunscreen is the safest bet.
