Mousepad material matters more for tracking than grip.
Probably not enough to worry about. A vertical ergonomic mouse already changes your grip angle, which can make clicks feel different regardless of the pad.
The real effect: mousepad material changes friction. A hard plastic pad is slippery, so you might unconsciously grip harder to keep the mouse from sliding during aggressive clicks. A cloth pad with more drag does that work for you. But most people adjust without thinking.
If you notice your mouse drifting when you click, try a high-friction cloth pad. If it’s not a problem, don’t stress it.
Your mousepad is probably fine—unless you find yourself chasing your mouse across the desk.
