Night running saves money on time-of-use plans
Yes.
If your electric company charges less at night (time-of-use rates), running the pump then saves real money. The pump does the same job — filters and circulates — whether it’s noon or midnight. The water doesn’t care.
The only catch: flat-rate electricity. If you pay the same per kWh all day, there’s no savings. But most utilities with time-of-use plans have cheaper overnight rates because demand is lower. Check your bill.
Also consider noise. Some pumps are loud enough to annoy neighbors or keep you awake. If that’s a concern, a variable-speed pump on a quiet schedule might be worth the extra upfront cost.
Just don’t forget to set the timer so it actually turns off.
