No dogs on Goat Island itself. Leash them on the beach.

No – dogs are banned from the actual island, and on the main beach they must be leashed near the water’s edge.

Goat Island is a marine reserve, so the island itself is off-limits to dogs year-round. Summer doesn’t change that. On the mainland beach (Goat Island Bay), dogs are allowed but must be on a leash at all times, especially near the water where birds and seals might be. The “near the edge” rule is basically stay leashed – no free roaming near the rocky edges or tide pools.

If you’re planning a trip, know that the reserve’s rules are enforced. I’ve seen rangers handing out fines. Better to leave the dog home or head to a dog-friendly beach nearby.

Don’t risk a fine – leave the pup
