Nylon and spandex blends dry fastest.

That’s the answer. Polyester is fine too but nylon tends to repel water better and feels lighter when wet. Pure spandex holds water longer, so you want a mix—usually 80% nylon, 20% spandex.

You’ll see “quick-dry” labeling on most swim trunks or bikinis, but always check the tag. If it’s mostly cotton or has a thick lining, it will stay soggy. Those board shorts with mesh liners? They’re made of polyester—dries fast but can feel clammy if the outer layer is too thick.

For actual competitive swimwear, they use nylon-elastane blends. For casual beach days, same thing. Avoid anything with cotton, bamboo, or “sustainable” plant fibers if speed drying is your goal. They take forever.

Just get something with at least 80% nylon and you’re good.
