Oil beats sticker glue on lunch boxes

The safest way to remove sticker residue from a brand-new lunch box is to rub it with cooking oil.

Give it a few drops of olive or vegetable oil, let it sit for a minute, then rub gently with your fingers or a soft cloth. The oil breaks down the glue without attacking the surface underneath. When the residue lifts, wipe the area clean with a little soap and water.

Don’t reach for a razor blade or scrubby pad. On plastic or coated metal, that’s how you get permanent scratches. Even “safe” plastic scrapers can leave marks if you press too hard.

If the label is stubborn, rubbing alcohol works too, but test it on a hidden spot first—it can dull some plastics. Goo Gone is fine, but oil is usually already in your kitchen and just as effective.

Future lunches deserve a clean start, not a scratched lid.
