Open Task Manager and watch the numbers.

Yes. Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc on Windows) or Activity Monitor on Mac, click the Performance tab, and look at the “Memory” section. If your usage is consistently over 80% and your system is sluggish, RAM is likely the bottleneck.

The easiest test: do your normal work while watching the memory graph. If it stays near 90-100% and the disk usage spikes up (Windows shows “Hard fault” or “Page file” activity), you’re starving for RAM. If memory is at 60% and the system still crawls, it’s probably your CPU or disk instead.

You don’t need to buy 16GB just because 8GB feels slow – diagnose first. If the numbers say you’re fine, save your money. If they scream “swap file hell,” then upgrade.

Watch the graph for a day, not five minutes.
