Pack a snack board, not a lunch
If you only eat once a day, your lunch box has to hold an entire day’s calories — so stop packing a normal lunch and start packing a board.
This is an adult Lunchable situation. Protein is the anchor: hard-boiled eggs, sliced chicken, salami, cheese cubes. Then add fat for calories: avocado, nuts, olives. Then some carbs for sanity: crackers, fruit, maybe a little chocolate. It all survives sitting in a bag for six hours, needs zero reheating, and you can graze on it for a full hour instead of inhaling it in ten minutes.
One thing to avoid: anything that gets sad sitting out. Skip wilt-prone salads, skip soggy sandwiches, skip yogurt that curdles in a warm bag. If you want something hot, a thermos of soup or chili is the move — that’s the one thing that actually reheats well and holds up.
The trap is under-eating. When you’ve fasted all day, you think you’ll be happy with a small meal, but you won’t — you’ll be starving by 6pm and eat your kitchen. Aim for 1200+ calories in that box and you’ll actually make it to tomorrow.
Future You after a 20-hour fast deserves better than a sad desk salad.
