Pack for the hand on the wheel

Pack for the hand that isn’t on the wheel — everything in your lunch box should be bite-sized, dripless, and edible without utensils.

I get it, you’re eating in the car because eating calmly at a table stopped being a thing. So treat your lunch like a road-trip snack, not a meal. Think bento box, not bowl. Cut sandwiches into strips, skip the soup, trade yogurt for cheese cubes and grapes. Anything that needs a fork or a spoon will end up on your lap.

Make it easy on yourself: prep the night before. Use a box with divided compartments so things don’t slide into one sad pile. Wrap anything messy in a tortilla or parchment. Throw in a wet napkin and a water bottle with a straw. If you have to peel something, you’ll end up eating zero of it.

It doesn’t have to be fancy. Just remember the rule: if it needs two hands, it gets left on the kitchen counter. One-handed, no-mess food is the whole game.

Future you at a red light will be grateful.
