Patterned mousepads can mess with your mouse.
Yes.
Optical sensors work by blasting light onto the surface and analyzing the microscopic texture. A repeating pattern—mesh, hexagons, carbon fiber weave—can confuse the sensor. It sees the pattern instead of the surface, and your cursor starts jumping or stuttering.
This is more common with high-DPI gaming mice or sensors that are very sensitive to surface detail. Cheap office mice often don’t care because they’re less precise. But if you’ve got a Logitech G Pro or a Razer Viper, a patterned pad might introduce odd acceleration or tracking weirdness.
If you notice it, swap to a solid-color cloth pad. No pattern. Your mouse will thank you.
Some people buy “artisan” pads for looks. Just know that looks can cost you a frag.
