Pellet grills are great for smoking, passable for grilling.

Depends on what you mean by “smoking” and “grilling.” A pellet grill can do both, but it’s a compromise.

For smoking, it’s basically cheating. Set the temp to 180–225°F, fill the hopper, and let it run. The pellets burn clean and produce real wood smoke. You get consistent temperature without babysitting. Most pellet grills have a “smoke” or “super smoke” setting that dumps more pellets for thicker smoke. Works great for brisket, ribs, pork shoulder—low and slow with minimal effort.

For grilling, it’s fine but not great. Crank it to 350–500°F. You’ll get decent heat for burgers, chicken thighs, steaks. But you won’t get that hard sear you’d
