Photos are better than boxes

Photos of sentimental items take up zero shelf space and keep the memories intact. The object itself is usually not the memory—it’s just a trigger.

Think about what you actually want to remember. The feeling of wearing your grandfather’s coat? You don’t need the coat for that. A photo of you in it does the same job without taking up closet real estate.

For things you really can’t let go of, make them functional or visible. That vintage tea set? Use it for daily coffee. Your kid’s art? Frame the best pieces and rotate them on the wall like a gallery. Everything else gets photographed, then passed on or recycled. Digital albums are easy to browse and don’t collect dust.

One hard rule I use: if I haven’t touched it in two years, I probably won’t miss it. And if I do, I’ve got a photo.

Your home should feel like a sanctuary, not a storage unit.
