The right folder for a subject depends on one thing: how often you actually need to get into it. Match the folder to the access frequency, not the subject’s importance.
Active subjects you touch weekly — current projects, classes, open accounts — get one simple hanging folder each. Don’t subdivide. If it takes more than ten seconds to find what you’re looking for, the system is already failing. The goal is grab-and-go, not perfect taxonomy.
