August 1967, to be specific — The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. That’s the one with Syd Barrett at peak weirdness, before he melted into space. If someone asks you this at a party, you can also add that it was recorded at Abbey Road while the Beatles were making Sgt. Pepper. Different planet, same building.
(And no, the singles from ’66 don’t count as an album.)
