Pink Floyd's First Album to Debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200

The Wall (1979) was Pink Floyd’s first album to debut at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 in its first week of release. It entered the chart on December 15, 1979 and stayed at the top for 15 non-consecutive weeks.

Before The Wall, the band’s earlier blockbusters—The Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here—had all climbed to No. 1 eventually, but none debuted there. The album’s massive first-week sales were fueled by its theatrical concept, the hit single “Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2,” and a pre-release marketing blitz that included billboards and the famous inflatable pig.
