Pink Floyd's 'More' soundtrack took three weeks.
Yes, they knocked out the whole album in just three weeks for Barbet Schroeder’s 1969 film.
That’s fast even by 60s standards, but Pink Floyd was still finding their footing after Syd Barrett left. They had a bunch of ideas floating around, and the film needed music fast. So they locked themselves in the studio and cranked it out.
The result is raw and uneven—half instrumental mood pieces, half actual songs like “Green Is the Colour” and “Cymbaline.” It’s not their best work, but for a three-week sprint, it’s impressive they made anything coherent at all.
It also gave them their first number one album in the UK, so the speed didn’t hurt.
If you’re into early Floyd experiments, it’s worth a listen. Just don’t expect Dark Side of the Moon.
