Plan on 2 days, hope for more.
Around 2 days if it’s a basic cooler, up to 5 for a high-end rotomolded one in 90°F heat. The “typical” 50-quart cooler you grab at the big box store is a $40 plastic box with thin insulation. In 90°F sun, that thing will melt a block of ice in about 24-36 hours—especially if you’re opening it often.
The real game changers aren’t the brand, but the prep: pre-chill the cooler overnight, use block ice instead of cubes, fill empty space with ice or towels (less air = less heat), and keep it in the shade. With a decent rotomolded cooler (Yeti, RTIC, Orca) and those tricks, you can stretch to 4-5 days. But your average Igloo or Coleman? 2 days max before the ice becomes lukewarm water.
Most people overestimate their cooler. The marketing photos of fish on ice for a week are taken in Alaska, not your 90°F parking lot.
