Plan your rest days like workouts.

Planned rest days actually protect your momentum, not hurt it. The problem isn’t taking a day off—it’s taking an unplanned day off because you burned out.

If you just “decide to take it easy” when you’re exhausted, that’s a guilt trip waiting to happen. You feel like you failed, then the whole resolution wobbles. But if you schedule a Tuesday off on purpose, you get the rest without the shame. Your brain treats it as part of the system, not a break from it.

Here’s what works: mark rest days on your calendar before the week starts. Treat them as non-negotiable as your work days. If you’re exercising, that might be two rest days a week. If your resolution is daily writing, maybe one day with zero output. The key is to make them regular and intentional, not reactive. Also, use rest days to do something else productive—laundry, a walk, whatever—so you still feel in motion.

Rest isn’t failure—it’s part of the plan.
