Plastic-tasting ice is the fridge, not your water

That plastic taste is almost certainly coming from the plastic parts inside your ice maker or water line — not your municipal supply.

It’s basically off-gassing. New plastic tubing, the ice tray, and the internal reservoir all have a little “new car smell” that leaches into the first few batches of ice. That’s why your ice tastes like a cheap water bottle for the first couple of days.

The fix is boring but works: throw out the first 2–3 batches of ice, and run a couple of glasses of water through the dispenser to clear the line. It usually fades within a week. If you installed a new fridge or replaced the water filter recently, that’s your culprit.
