Pre-dilute chemicals before adding them to a vinyl pool.

Always mix powdered or granular chemicals in a bucket of water first, then pour slowly into the return jet with the pump running. Never dump directly onto the liner.

Vinyl liners are tough but not bulletproof. A clump of dry shock or pH adjuster sitting on the bottom will bleach or weaken the material. Pre-dissolving gives you a uniform, safe dose. Use a clean plastic bucket (never metal), add the chemical to the water (not the other way around), stir until dissolved, then pour near the return inlet so the pump distributes it. Avoid splashing on walls or steps. For liquid chemicals, you can pour directly into the return stream, no bucket needed.

Test your water regularly. A balanced pool needs fewer emergency chemical additions, which is easier on the liner and your sanity.

Your liner will last longer if you treat it gently.
