Prospect Point is your spot
Prospect Point is your spot.
Head to Niagara Falls State Park — Prospect Point is the best US-side view for the illuminated falls.
The lights kick on at dusk and run until midnight (10pm on quieter nights, but check the Niagara Falls State Park site for seasonal schedules). Colors cycle every 15 minutes or so, so you don’t have to rush. Park near the main entrance off Prospect Street, walk about two minutes to the observation deck, and you’re set. No passport needed.
Canada has the better overall view from their side—more distance, more of the falls in frame. But from the US side you can get right up close to the American Falls and Bridal Veil. The mist catches the light differently. It’s not worse, just a different show.
If you want the full spectacle without crossing the border, get there by 9pm on a weekend. The crowd thins out and the lights feel more dramatic. Bring a jacket.
