Put the tomato sauce in glass
Glass is the safer pick for acidic foods like tomato sauce — especially if you’re reheating them in the container.
Tomato sauce is acidic enough to pull chemical compounds out of plastic over time. The leaching gets worse when you add heat, which is exactly what happens when you microwave leftovers in the container.
Glass is completely non-reactive. It doesn’t leach anything, doesn’t stain tomato red, and doesn’t hold onto smells. The tradeoff is real: it’s heavier and it can shatter. But for anything acidic and hot, it’s the better container.
To be fair, a modern BPA-free plastic isn’t poisoning you overnight, and cold storage is mostly fine. But long contact time plus reheating is where plastic becomes the wrong tool for the job.
This is an easy swap that actually matters.
