Racerback and a wide underband are non-negotiable.
You need a top that’s built like a sports bra, not a fashion bikini. Look for racerback straps (they stay on your shoulders), a wide elastic band under the chest, and compression fabric—not those flimsy triangle tops. High-neck styles also help keep everything in place when you’re bouncing down the sand.
Same logic for the bottom: choose high-waisted with a grippy silicone strip inside, or a cheeky cut that actually covers your glutes. Drawstrings on the sides let you tighten as you run. Stay away from string ties—they loosen and you’ll be adjusting every ten steps.
A true “sport bikini” from companies like Athleta, Title Nine, or Patagonia is worth the price. They test this stuff on runners. Cheap “surf” brands often look sporty but aren’t.
If you’re running in and out of waves, a one-piece is easier and doesn’t shift. But if you want two pieces, that’s the spec list.
