RAM slots are tougher than you think, but bent pins still happen.
Yes, but it’s mostly avoidable with simple care.
RAM slots on modern motherboards are pretty durable. You’d have to jam the stick in sideways to actually break the slot itself. The real risk is bending the pins inside the slot, and that usually happens when you try to force a stick in the wrong way.
The key is alignment. Every DDR4 or DDR5 stick has a notch in the contact edge that lines up with a key in the slot. Make sure that notch is facing the right way. Then press evenly on both ends until the clips snap into place. If you feel strong resistance, stop and check orientation — don’t just push harder.
Also, support the back of the motherboard if you can. Some boards flex under pressure, and that can stress the slot. And never rock the stick side to side — that’s how pins get bent.
Take your time and you’ll be fine.
