RAM upgrades are plug and play.

Just swap the sticks. No software changes needed.

Your OS will automatically detect the new RAM. Windows, macOS, Linux — none of them care. You don’t need to reinstall, update drivers, or change any settings. The extra memory just shows up.

Two things to watch for: (1) if you’re mixing different kits (like adding 16GB to existing 16GB), it might work but can cause instability. Best to replace all sticks with a matched set. (2) You may need to enable XMP or EXPO in the BIOS to get the advertised speed, but that’s not a “software change” — it’s a one-time setting inside your motherboard firmware.

If you’re swapping from 16GB to a new 32GB kit, it’s physically plugging them in and booting up. That’s it.
