Resolutions need recalibration after holidays

The smartest thing you can do with a resolution that demands too much time is to cut its scope in half.

You came back to a full inbox, a backlog of Slack messages, and probably a few fires that need putting out. Trying to keep a pre-holiday resolution at full throttle while adjusting to forty-plus-hour workweeks again is a recipe for burnout, not progress.

Pick the smallest version of the resolution that still feels meaningful. If it was “work out an hour every day,” try twenty minutes three times a week. If it was “write a thousand words a day,” drop to three hundred, three times a week. Set a six-week checkpoint and re-evaluate. Odds are you’ll find the smaller habit sticks, and by spring you can scale up naturally.

Starting small beats giving up entirely. Future you won’t care that you took two months to ease in.
