Retinol and sunscreen are a team, not a conflict.
You need sunscreen more when using retinol, not less.
Retinol (and other active ingredients like AHAs, BHAs, or vitamin C) speeds up cell turnover and thins the outer layer of skin. That makes your skin more sensitive to UV damage — not more resistant. The sun will hit harder, faster.
So you apply retinol at night. Sunscreen in the morning. They don’t cancel each other out. They complement each other: retinol rebuilds, sunscreen protects.
Skipping sunscreen on retinol is like taking a shower and then jumping in the mud. Don’t waste your money on actives if you won’t protect the results.
