Rinse and dry after every use – it's that simple.
Yes. The secret to a mold-free snorkel is just rinsing and drying thoroughly after every swim. Saltwater and freshwater both leave enough moisture for mold to grow, especially in that dark tube.
Rinse with fresh water immediately after use. Shake out excess water. Then let it air dry completely – upright or hung so water can drain. Don’t store it wet in a bag or case. That’s how mold wins.
If you already have mold, a soak in diluted white vinegar (1:3 with water) for 15 minutes kills it. Or use a mild dish soap and a pipe cleaner. Rinse well after. But prevention is easier than treatment.
Don’t overthink it. Rinse. Dry. Store somewhere ventilated. That’s 90% of the maintenance.
Future you deserves a snorkel that doesn’t smell like a swamp.
