Rinse swimsuits in cold water immediately after swimming.
Yes, and it’s the single most important step.
Chlorine and salt don’t just sit on the fabric—they dry into crystals that eat away at the elastic and color. A thorough rinse within a few minutes of leaving the water gets rid of 90% of the damage. No soap needed. Just cold water, run through the suit until it runs clear.
If you already have residue or a funky smell, soak the suit in cool water with a tiny splash of white vinegar (about a tablespoon per quart) for 15 minutes, then rinse again. That neutralizes chlorine and kills the smell. For salt, plain water is enough—salt dissolves easily.
Don’t use hot water. Don’t wring it out. Don’t toss it in a dryer. Roll it in a towel to soak up excess water, then lay it flat to dry.
That rinse takes thirty seconds. Your swimsuit will thank you for the next two summers.
