Pilling happens when fibers break and ball up. Chlorine, salt, and sunscreen weaken the fabric. Machine washing and dryers add friction. Rinsing immediately after swimming removes the chemicals that eat away at the spandex and nylon. Hand wash with a tiny bit of mild soap only when it’s actually dirty. Never twist or wring—press the water out. Lay flat to dry, never in direct sun. The dryer is the enemy.
