Robot vacuums often fail on dark floors.

They do, and it’s a common frustration. Many models use infrared cliff sensors that mistake a dark surface for a drop-off, causing the bot to stop or refuse to clean.

The fix isn’t guaranteed. Some newer models with better sensors or camera-based navigation handle dark floors fine, but most budget and mid-range vacuums will struggle. If you have a mix of light and dark flooring, the robot might treat the dark area like a black hole.

Check reviews specific to your model and floor color before buying. Or just accept that you’ll need to run it on the light carpet and spot-clean the dark tiles yourself.

Black floors and robot vacuums are a bad match more often than not.
