Robotic pool cleaners are worth the extra money.
Probably. Unless you’re on a tight budget and your pool is simple, the robotic cleaner is the better long-term choice.
Robotic cleaners are self-contained—they plug in, run on their own pump and filter, and don’t rely on your pool’s circulation system. That means cleaner water, no extra strain on your equipment, and lower energy bills. They also filter fine particles better than pressure-side models, which just blast debris into a bag using water pressure from a booster pump.
Pressure-side cleaners are cheaper upfront, but you need a booster pump (often sold separately) and they add wear to your main pool pump since they rely on it for flow. They also stir up the water more and don’t catch fine sediment. Great for leaves and large debris, but not for polished water.
For most people, the robotic ends up paying for itself in fewer chemical adjustments and less equipment maintenance. If you have a simple above-ground pool or don’t care about spotless water, a pressure-side can get the job done. But for in-ground pools or anyone who wants to set it and forget it, go robotic.
Future you will thank you for not having to clean the filter basket twice a week.
