Roll it, don't fold it

Rolling the float tightly from one end is the easiest way to get it back into the original bag without creasing the seams. Folding is what makes those hard creases appear along the welded seams, and once they’re set, they’re a pain to get out.

Start by letting all the air out — don’t just squeeze the valve, actually open it and press the float flat. Then lay it out on the ground, pick one end, and roll it up like a burrito. Keep the roll tight and use your knees or hands to press out any trapped air as you go. That rolling action presses the whole surface evenly, so no single spot gets bent into a sharp fold.

Once it’s a snug cylinder, slide it into the bag. If it’s still a little bulky, you can push the bag itself against your chest or a wall to force out the last bit of air and compress the roll. You don’t need a vacuum or a strap or any tricks — just a tight, even roll.

Future you will be glad you didn’t fight the bag in July.
