Rolling Stones – Havana Moon Blu-ray: How the video quality and exclusive documentary improve on the DVD

The previous DVD and digital release of Havana Moon looked fine for 1080p, but the new Blu-ray is a noticeable jump because the show was actually shot in 4K. The Blu-ray presents a full 4K SDR (or HDR10 on compatible players) transfer, so you get sharper detail in the wide shots of the massive crowd at the Ciudad Deportiva and better texture on the band’s stage clothes. The HDR grade also makes the bright Cuban sunset and the red stage lights pop in a way the DVD couldn’t handle.

Exclusive to this reissue is the 30-minute documentary The Night Havana Moon Rose, which was not on the original DVD. It features backstage footage of the band arriving in Havana and soundcheck rehearsals, plus interviews with local Cuban musicians who opened the show or helped coordinate the historic event. There’s also a short piece on how the Stones’ production team managed the logistics of a free concert for over half a million people—something the DVD only touched on in photo galleries. If you already own the DVD, the sharper image and that extra doc make this the definitive version.
