Rolling Stones Records and the One Other Artist They Signed

In 1971, after leaving Decca and striking a distribution deal with Atlantic, the Stones launched their own label: Rolling Stones Records. The iconic tongue-and-lips logo debuted on Sticky Fingers, the first album released under that imprint.

They only ever signed one outside act to the label: keyboardist Billy Preston. Preston, who had already played on Let It Bleed and Sticky Fingers, released two solo albums on Rolling Stones Records — I Wrote a Simple Song (1971) and Everybody Likes Some Kind of Music (1973). He later joined the Stones as a full touring member. The label essentially went dormant after 1973, though Stones albums continued to carry the logo.
