Ron Geesin: The Orchestral Architect Behind Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother

The conductor and arranger for the Atom Heart Mother suite was Ron Geesin, a Scottish composer and musician who also co-wrote the piece. Pink Floyd brought him in after hearing his experimental work, and he essentially orchestrated the entire 23-minute suite—writing parts for a brass band, choir, and cello.

Later, Geesin openly regretted the collaboration. He was paid a flat fee of around £600 and received no royalties, despite the album becoming a UK number one. He also felt his contributions were underappreciated by the band, who he said treated the sessions chaotically and never properly acknowledged his role in shaping the piece.
