Rotate toys in bins, keep only what fits

The best strategy for decluttering toys in a small apartment is to limit what you keep to what fits in a few storage bins, then rotate them every week or two.

Kids don’t need 50 toys out at once. They play more with fewer options. So pick a number of bins that fits in your closet or under a bed — say three clear plastic totes. Fill them with the best toys. Everything else either gets donated, sold, or tossed. No attic, no garage overflow.

Every Sunday, swap one bin out. The old toys feel new again. The mess stays contained because only one bin’s worth of stuff is ever out. No more “where do I put this?” because the answer is always “it goes in the current bin.” Your kid gets excited about a toy they forgot existed, and you don’t trip over LEGOs at 2 AM.

The hardest part is being honest about what they actually play with. That expensive educational thing from grandma? If they’ve touched it twice, it’s gone. You’re not a museum curator.

Your living room is not a daycare center.
