Roto-molded coolers are the only choice for saltwater.
Get one that is mostly plastic with stainless or no exposed metal. Saltwater eats everything else.
Saltwater is brutal. It’ll rust cheap hinges, handles, and latches in a season. Traditional coolers with metal parts — even “marine grade” — eventually fail. Roto-molded coolers like Yeti, Pelican, or Engel are one-piece plastic with no metal to corrode. They also keep ice longer, which matters when you’re out all day.
If you’re on a budget, look for a cooler with fully plastic hardware (no metal hinges or latches at all). Some Igloo models have that. But don’t buy a cheap metal-handled cooler and expect it to hold up.
You need something that can be hosed off with salt spray and not rust. Roto-molded is the easiest answer.
Your gear will last longer than your fishing stories.
