Rubber grips don’t work on thick carpet
No, they won’t prevent buckling or movement during fast flicks.
Thick carpet is basically a soft, uneven mattress for your mousepad. The rubber grip needs a firm, flat surface to dig into. On plush pile, the grip just floats—it can’t grab anything solid. So when you swipe hard, the pad flexes, slides, or bunches up. The flexibility you’re relying on actually makes it worse because the pad bends into the carpet’s valleys.
Hard pads (plastic, glass, or metal) are the answer. They don’t rely on grip as much because they’re rigid—they push down into the carpet and stay put. Or you can put a piece of thin plywood or a large cutting board under a soft pad. That works too.
