Rubbermaid Brilliance is the best BPA-free plastic lunch box that actually holds up on the top rack. Sistema is the budget pick, but if you want something that won’t warp or stain after a year of pasta, spend the extra two bucks.

The plastic is legit clear and tough, the latches click shut and stay shut, and the seal is leakproof enough for soup if you’re careful. I’ve run these through the top rack for months and they come out looking the same. No melting, no weird bending, no cloudy residue. Sistema is fine too, but the lids are flimsier and I’ve had corners crack from the dishwasher’s heat.

One thing: check those lids. Most brands say the base is top-rack safe but the lid is “hand wash recommended,” meaning the plastic ring and seal can warp. Rubbermaid says both are safe, but I still toss only the base in the dishwasher to be safe. Hand-washing lids takes five seconds.
