Rubbing alcohol will get it off

Rubbing alcohol is the fastest way to remove permanent marker from a plastic binder. Grab a cotton ball or paper towel, soak it with isopropyl alcohol (70% or 91% both work), and rub the mark. It should dissolve in a few seconds.

The reason this works is pretty simple: permanent marker isn’t really permanent — it just needs the right solvent. Alcohol breaks down the marker ink, and because plastic is non-porous, the ink stays on the surface instead of soaking in. That makes it easier to lift off than from paper or fabric.

If you don’t have rubbing alcohol, you can also scribble over the marker with a dry erase marker and wipe it off. Dry erase markers contain a solvent that loosens permanent ink. Same idea, slightly more steps.

One thing to avoid: nail polish remover or acetone. It might take the marker off faster, but it can also cloud, discolor, or melt certain plastics. That’s a bad trade for a binder.

Test on a less visible spot first if you’re worried about the finish. Otherwise, alcohol is safe, cheap, and already in your cabinet.
