Run your pump half as much.
Most pools are over-filtered. Running the pump 12 hours a day is often overkill. Cut it to 6–8 hours, and you’ll likely notice zero difference in water clarity.
The real trick is a variable-speed pump. They use way less electricity at lower speeds, and you can run them longer for the same cost as a single-speed running half the time. If you’re still on a single-speed, that’s your biggest energy hog. Upgrade pays for itself in a season or two.
A solar cover also helps in two ways: it keeps heat in (so you don’t run the heater as much) and it keeps debris out (so the filter works less hard). Cheap, simple, effective.
Also check your filter pressure and clean it regularly. A dirty filter makes the pump work harder for the same result. That’s free energy savings.
Your electric bill will thank you.
