‘Seamus’ was the one-take dog song on Meddle.
Yes, that’s “Seamus.” David Gilmour’s friend’s dog was howling along to a blues jam in the studio, and they just hit record. One take, dog included. It’s the fifth track on side two, right after “Echoes.”
The story goes that the dog—named Seamus—was a borzoi, and he started singing whenever someone played harmonica. The band thought it was funny enough to keep. It’s definitely not their most serious moment, but that’s kind of the point.
