Selfie sticks are banned on most boats. GoPros are fine.

It depends on the boat, but generally: GoPro yes, selfie stick no.

Cruise lines and most tour boats ban selfie sticks for a good reason — they’re a hazard in crowds, can hit people, and can damage artwork or railings. Disney Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, Carnival, they all say no. Even smaller sightseeing boats often have the same rule.

GoPros are usually fine. You can bring them, mount them on a chest strap, handheld grip, or helmet. Just don’t attach them to a long pole that looks like a selfie stick. Some boats also restrict pole mounts in tight spaces, so check their policy beforehand.

A selfie stick on a crowded deck is a recipe for a lawsuit. Leave it at home.
