Separate compartments beat crumb-proof seals

Separate compartments are what actually keep crackers and cheese from becoming a pile of crumbs.

Think about it: a Ziploc bag keeps crumbs contained until you open it, but doesn’t stop the crackers from getting crushed into dust by the cheese cubes. And if you toss everything in one big container, the crackers go stale and the cheese picks up crumbs. Bento-style lunch boxes with fixed or removable dividers solve both problems.

Look for a hard-sided box with deep, separate sections. Deep sections let you stand crackers up so they don’t slide around. Removable dividers give you flexibility if you want to pack a bigger sandwich one day. The latch matters too—something that clicks closed but isn’t a wrestling match to open.

Don’t worry too much about leakproof seals unless you’re also packing wet stuff like grapes or yogurt. For dry snacks, a tight lid is enough. If you’re set on using a soft lunch bag, just buy a hard bento insert that fits inside it. Same idea.

Your crackers will handle lunch a lot better without a bag of crumbs.
